Midwest Dance and Theater Collections Intern

Processed and described two small manuscript collections consisting of correspondence, scrapbooks, art prints, programs, and clippings: John Doctoroff Papers, 1924-1967, 2.8 linear feet; and Virna Harman Walker Johnston Papers, 1903-1959, 0.4 linear feet. Encoded EAD finding aids for the above collections and the Ruth Levy Dance Photographs, 1928-1976, 7.5 linear feet. Researched the network of 20th-21st century Chicago dancers and dance instructors for The Legacy of Chicago Dance exhibit. Wrote exhibit labels on Black Chicago dancers and studios.
Summer Archival Processing Aide

Processed and described the hybrid analog and born-digital Harold and Joan Perkin papers, 1905, 1930-2015, 62 linear feet and 6.28 MB, which consists of research files, manuscript drafts, correspondence, audio-visual materials, and photographs of two faculty members in the Northwestern University History Department. Included disk imaging 70 3.5 inch floppy disks, inventorying the contents, normalizing access copies, and arranging the digital files. Wrote a finding aid and folder inventory for the Northwestern Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Greek Files records.

Processed the Subject Files collection, 1905-1970s, 427 cubic feet, which consisted of rehousing folders, creating a folder-level inventory following DACS, and identifying and separating materials for inclusion in preexisting and new collections. Cleaned up legacy metadata for digital photograph collections. Processed and deaccessioned photograph prints, negatives, and slides. Digitized model release forms and contracts for photo shoots, and recorded the legal rights and usage status of photographs in the digital asset management system.

Digitized photographic negatives of 1950s downtown Louisville. Processed the Louisville Collegiate School records, 1914-2015, 15 linear feet which consists of the records of a private, grade K-12 school. Processing included arranging the files and inventorying the audio-visual items. Also processed the Good Home Grown Music business papers, 1998-2015, 9 linear feet and 20 GB of audio which consists of the records of the Tennessee bluegrass song publishing company owned by Dixie Hall. Arranged song files, wrote a finding aid, ingested and inventoried digital audio files, and cataloged.

Developed a processing plan, processed, and wrote a finding aid for the J. B. Speed Art Museum Records collection, 145.37 linear feet, which includes financial records, board records, correspondence, architectural drawings, photographs, and personal papers of directors. Answered reference requests related to the collection, which included assisting Jo Anne Triplett in uncovering former Speed Director Jesse G. Wright, Jr., as reported in LEO Weekly.

Collaborated with seven graduate students and three staff members to remotely annotate documents for the Civil War Governors of Kentucky Digital Documentary Edition. Independently researched over 1,400 people, places, and organizations mentioned in 175 pardon petitions to the governor. Applied consistent metadata and citation formats to enable effective XML manipulation and social network linking. Encouraged digital visitor engagement with the project through Facebook and Twitter. Live-tweeted and created a Storify for the CWGK Symposium on June 8-9.
Graduate Oral History Collections Intern

Wrote workflow manuals for oral history collection preservation, management, and archival processing in PastPerfect, CONTENTdm, and the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS). Researched and collaborated on a digital preservation policy. Digitized over 90 analog interviews. Evaluated, edited, and standardized metadata for nearly 600 records in the digital collection. Processed, created metadata, and made available online eight new collections and processed more interviews for two existing digital collections, all together contributing to over 250 new items in the digital collection. Updated the version and edited CSS of the OHMS viewer application. Entered and edited metadata, and converted digital files for the processing of an audio-visual collection in OHMS. Wrote a blog post entitled, “‘Living with Difference’: Disability and Oral History”

Remediated artifact legacy metadata into a collection management database. Processed and described Joan Campbell’s research materials for her monograph, Loretto: An Early American Congregation in the American South which includes scholarly articles, newspaper articles, copies of monographs, photographs, maps, copies of primary sources on nineteenth century American religious history and the history of slavery, mail and email correspondence, and working manuscript drafts. Reviewed Loretto: An Early American Congregation in the American South and presented review to the community. Researched slaves owned by the antebellum Sisters of Loretto.
Oral History Contractor

Collaborated with an undergraduate intern and a graduate student contractor. Updated the version and edited CSS of the OHMS viewer application. Digitized analog interviews on the Civil Rights Movement in Kentucky and School Desegregation in Western Kentucky. Entered metadata, prepared digital transcripts, and synced audio interviews in OHMS.
Public History Program Graduate Assistant

Updated the Public History Program webpage and blog. Managed student collaboration in the oral history component of the Parkland Neighborhood History Project, which included training students to use the audio recording equipment, complete deeds of gift, and create metadata for the oral histories; coordinating the checking out of equipment; managing all the digital and physical files; and mailing the interview copies, deeds of gift, and thank you letters to narrators.
